Unanswerable Question?!

So i'm not sure whether or not i'm the only one who feels this way, but really, what in the world is the hype about Sun TV? Honestly speaking, how can one benefit from watching Sun TV? Dwelling deeper, the program schedule on weekdays goes something like SERIALS from sun up till sun down. Maybe thats why they named it Sun TV; you know, the same type of show..?! no?! Well, you get my point...Then there the 2:00 movie. Oh My GOD! ITS A SARATHKUMAR MOVIE...again. Seriously! Ever heard of variety?! Say, one magical afternoon, they play a fairly decent movie, a rareity, something about that movie wouldn't be appealing; it could be that specific copy, or the fact that its been played too many times. Either way, people sit and watch it. Why?! Same with the mentioned seirals, WHY?! What satisfaction does one get from watching horrible actors/actresses cry, shout, kill, etc. Why does one waste time watching someone walk from the bathroom to the living room while wailing music plays in the background?! Dont get me wrong, i'm also a victim of this, which is why i'm writing this. I can't understand how idiotic, repetitive storylines and old movies can capture people. What's in channels like Sun TV, that gathers a hold over people?! Definately a question to ponder... :)

All your criticism accepted, Sun TV is one of the only ways for children in your country to become familiar with spoken Tamil. :) As trashy as it may be, it encourages awareness of mainstream Chennai culture and also fosters an atmosphere where children can learn to speak colloquial Tamil and communicate comfortably with their peers whenever they visit home. Besides, don't even trip - Jaya TV is so much better in terms of quality of programs. Just subscribe to that instead. :)

Actually, there was no sun tv when i learned tamil...growing up here...and what exactly encourages chennai culture? the fighting and the crying? i do have jaya tv and yes i agree that it is better...but i dont think i can see your point of how Sun Tv is beneficial to the society at large..

Well, in those days there was only ' Doordarshan" and we had no alternatives. Some of the programmes there were horrible and MPs complained about it, the then Information & Broadcasting Minister was arrogant enough to retort,' You have an "Off" switch on ur TV. Use it." So when Sun TV came, people flocked to it in delight. but now, the entire network, in fact the media of tamilnadu, the TV, the cable network, the film production & distribution is all controlled by one family - Karunanidhi's. it is the monopoly that is restricting creativity. As you say, we often feel that it is better to shut uorselves off from all this and take a walk into nature.

the same thing is happening in advanced socities like Singapore. The entire media, The TV Channels, the newpapers, and the radio there is controlled bu the Australian Media King, Pupert Murdoch, and all of them air the same topic - what the S'pore Govt. waants its people to know. it is all brainwashing done by the State!

My friend who was an editor with CNN was saying that even the CNN was controlled by vested interests. i suppose it is the same case everywhere,
To sum up, " All are equal. But some are more equal than others.' And they control even our very thoughts. they tell us how or what we should think!

Dev, well said! I agree with everything!!! In my very first post I said that this blog was supposed to be about developing awareness about indian culture...if a person like me has that notion why can't the big heads in India do the same!! Would it hurt to cut some of that nonsense and actually put some decent shows?
